Horizontal Dewatering

Horizontal dewatering is an activity by which the water is extracted through drains. The extraction of groundwater can take place by gravity or vacuum. This dewatering method will mainly be used for pipeline projects or in case of dewatering large areas. With the use of a drainage machine (see pictures) the drains are installed - guided by laser - to a maximum of 8 metres below ground level.
Horizontal Dewatering
In case of formations with low permeability we advice to refill the drain trench with drainage sand or gravel. As a result the flow of groundwater to the drains will be improved.
To ensure an effective drainage dewatering system, we own various types of drainage machines.

The following types of drains are used:
Drains up to 160mm diameter made of PVC or PE, enveloped with coconut fibre, nylon or Polypropylene (PP).

Horizontal DewateringKoop system
"Gravity" dewatering by means of drainage, collector pipes and pumping shaft. The Koop system is mainly used for dewatering of large areas and excavations with a long period of maintenance.
The drains are undergrounds connected to a collector pipe which ends in the pumping shaft.
Advantages:
- reduction of groundwater flow by 20 - 30%
- reduction of costs for maintenance by 50%
- reduction of for power supply (electricity) by 50%

Multiple applications for the drainage-machine
With this machine we can realise multiple cable trenching and it is possible to install flexible PE-pipes up to a diameter of 250mm. At the same time the trench can be refilled with sand or gravel. The installation of cables and pipes in the trench are monitored by laser and can be performed to a depth of 4 meters below ground level.

Installation of Geo-textiles
With specific adaptions to the drainage machine we are able to install a vertical screen of Geo-textile into the ground up to a depth of 5-6 metres.

Vacuum dewatering by means of drains
This system is mainly used for the construction of sewerage systems and for pipelines as well as projects for dewatering large areas. The installed drains are directly connected to the pumps.
Advantage:
No obstacles above ground on the construction-site and therefore no risk for damaging the dewatering-system.
